Call for Expressions of Interest - Volunteer Advisory Committee

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

The Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services Association is seeking expressions of interest from volunteers.

We are seeking volunteers willing to nominate themselves for a position on the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC).

The VAC is a high level, legislated committee that provides strategic advice to the Commissioner and Minister on matters of importance regarding the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service.

Minister for Emergency Services, the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC recently wrote to the VAC Chair and Association to acknowledge that current committee member details have expired and is seeking to revitalise the VAC by offering an opportunity for volunteers to get involved.

Acceptance to become a member of the VAC requires approval in the form of a Cabinet submission, scheduled to be put forward by Minister Dawson.

Our goal is to bring together a diverse group of volunteers from different regions and backgrounds, with varying skills and knowledge to form a collaborative committee that is representative of our State-wide service.

Convening 2 - 4 times per year, VAC meetings can be attended in person or, online using a platform such as MS Teams or Zoom.

As a VAC member you will be expected to:

  • Communicate and collaborate with other volunteers in your region

  • Gather information and/or conduct research as agreed

  • Contribute or offer an opinion on matters presented

  • Vote on matters requiring a decision

  • Share your knowledge and expertise

Previous committee member experience is not required. Relevant development and training will be available, and costs associated with attending or performing a function for the VAC is provided.

If you feel passionate about your volunteer role and the future of the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and are willing to contribute to this important committee, please send through the following detail to admin@vfrs.asn.au. The closing date has been extended to Wednesday, 31 August 2022:

  • No more than 1 page outlining how your knowledge and experience will be an asset to the committee; and

  • An updated copy of your resume that includes details of your work and volunteer history.

Please know that this opportunity will be competitive and submitting your interest at the earliest opportunity will assist in the selection process.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to serving the needs of our communities, it is immensely appreciated.

Get to it and good luck!
